I'm originally from Saint John, but have been away in Ontario for over 17 years. I've recently moved Back Home and have found I'm seeing old Saint John through new eyes -- the eyes of someone from Away.

Boilerworks in Market square I had their “bypass burger” and she had a half rack of ribs.
I quite enjoyed the burger but the fries were salty. Her ribs were great, and so was the salad, but her fries were cold and too salty.
Decor is very good, bathrooms are clean.
Server was a bit slow and not attentive but fair overall.

Vivaldi’s restaurant
We visited on a Sunday evening and the place was very quiet - just 2 other groups. They have a very extensive menu featuring Lebanese and Italian food.
The decor was excellent, and the service was… somewhat inexperienced. She was OK, but could have been a bit more attentive given how quiet the place was.
I had a chicken parmesan with Fettuccine Alfredo, which was excellent. The meal started with a salmon chowder which was also great. The dessert was a Baklava, which was wonderful. All in all, a great value for the money.

The Mediterranean
The Med has been around for a long time; it’s a Saint John staple.
The food was good, the selection is fairly extensive. We had a nice flaming cheese appetizer that was excellent.
Service was a bit slow/distracted, but not bad. They go through so many meals that it’s not surprising that the waiter’s a bit harried.
The decor is nothing special, and starting to look a bit worn and dated.

Big Tide Brewing Co
The place has been open for just a couple of months but they’ve established themselves well.
Their beer selection is good: I sampled the Cream Ale and Blueberry, which where very good.
Food was a bit bland, needing to be cooked a bit more.
Decor and service were good.

Saint John Ale House Fish & Chips and Scallops and Chips were very good. Service was a bit slow/distracted but I think he was just too busy. Good beer selection (should be good considering it’s an ale house). 5 out of 5 stars
Sebastian Cafe. Had an excellent supper (chicken carbonera, she had a great lamb dish). Service and decor are wonderful. Someone online said that having a martini bar in SJ was “miraculous” and we agree. 5 out of 5 stars.
Sense of Tokyo Excellent all around: food, service and ambiance. It’s nice to have a really good sushi place in Saint John. 5 out of 5 stars.
The Caves - St Martins They bill their seafood chowder as “World Famous” and rightly so. It was excellent and the 1-piece fish and chips was quite good. Service is cafateria-style, which took a bit of getting used to. Decor is very basic but it’s the wonderful views of the ocean and the St Martins caves you come for. 4 out of 5 stars
Sampan, west side We had an excellent Dim Sum today, though they don’t bring the food around in carts. Food quality was very good and seemed quite authentic. 5 out of 5 stars
Food quality is always excellent at Billy’s. I had the seafood medley, which was wonderful. Decor is a bit neutral and service was a bit abrupt but it didn’t detract from the great food. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
